Bavarian Pot Roast
4 pounds beef arm pot roast
1 teaspoon vegetable oil
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
3 whole cloves
4 medium apples, cored and quartered
1 small onion, sliced
1/2 cup apple juice
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons water
